Conditions of Acceptance
A child will only be admitted to GISD if a place in the appropriate class is available. As a rule of thumb, class sizes should not exceed 20 in Early Years and 20 in the primary school. Exceptions may be made for overseas students joining GISD mid-year, for whom there is no alternative.
In general, the school cannot offer programs for children with significant learning disabilities who require specialist teachers, those who have behavioral or emotional difficulties or those local children who have been unsuccessful in other institutions and simply want to try an alternative. The school reserves the right to refuse admission to any child we feel would be unable to benefit from the curriculum.
Placement
All children will be initially placed in their age appropriate class. The cutoff date for placement is October 1st of each calendar year.
All new children have a 3-month probationary period. The school reserves the right to ask parents to make alternative arrangements for their child’s education, should the school feel that there is no realistic chance of the child accessing the curriculum at a meaningful level.
Procedure for Parents
Submit completed application form with copies of the child’s previous report cards if enrolling in elementary school
If the application is considered feasible, the family will be invited for an interview with the Executive Director / CEO
Where applicable the child will be invited to school to complete the placement tests. In the case of overseas families, the placement tests will be sent to the child’s present school for completion.
If the application is successful, parents will receive a letter of confirmation, a school contract, and an invoice for the admission fee.
A place only becomes firm after the admission fee has been transferred to the school’s account
